Photopal

Photopal is a fantastic little system for organising your photo albums on the web. It requires little in the way of configuration, and making an album is as simple as dropping files into a directory, then writing out a list of descriptions.

Only I couldn’t get it working. I sent a quick email to Noel Jackson, the man behind Photopal, asking for help. He replied straight away with suggestions, and an offer of further help if needed. It’s up and running now, albeit slowly, which is down to an as yet unidentified problem with the s from my little keyring camera rather than Noel’s system.

Similarly, I was playing with DropIT the other day, a free app for uploading your IP address to the web, and had a couple of queries for its developer Philip Zvar. Again, he was back in touch within the hour.

So many thanks to Noel and Philip, for showing that the best thing about free software isn’t necessarily the price.
