re: the “Pimp my …” meme. I believe that popular rap star Xzibit (or “X to the Z” as people seem to call him), the staff of West Coast Customs, and their MTV show Pimp My Ride, wherein Mr Zibit and his crew take some poor dolt’s beat up ‘73 AMC Pacer and install a fishtank, a couple of DVD players, an espresso maker, three nodding plastic dogs and a flashing disco floor, in order that said car attains a higher level of pimpitude, are to blame.

Thanks chaps - I knew about that programme, but assumed they’d adopted a pre-existing coinage.

Whatever - don’t like it because it conjours up grisly images from Iceberg Slim memoirs , and coathanger beatings and enforced smack addiction for teen girls don’t exactly match rappers customising cars in my head!
