Grey Tuesday

Today is Grey Tuesday:

It’s time for music fans to stand up and demand change from the music industry’s copyright cartel.

Tuesday, February 24 will be a day of coordinated civil disobedience: websites will post Danger Mouse’s Grey Album on their site for 24 hours in protest of EMI’s attempts to censor this work.

If you don’t have a copy of Danger Mouse’s blend of Black and White Albums yet, pick a host from the Grey Tuesday site, and download away.

  1. Ooh, what a cynical publicity stunt. Why should anyone be surprised or pissed off that EMI would try to censor him? Come on!! are they supposed to give him a big pat on the back?

  2. We so should be pissed off that EMI would try to censor Mr. Mouse - reworking existing work is, like, totally central to artistic practice since time immemorial and it shouldn’t be curtailed by filthy capitalism, man!

If Holinshed had copyrighted his chronicles, we wouldn’t have Macbeth, if Mark had copyrighted his Gospel, Mathew, Luke and John couldn’t have published their versions, if Campbells had kicked up a fuss about their cans, we wouldn’t have the Warhols, etc. etc.

You’re not wrong on the publicity front, though - who knew who Danger Mouse was pre-Grey? Not I.
