Prince Band Reunion. Oh. My. God.

I nearly fell out of my chair read­ing this Rolling Stone report.

Sheila E. is organ­is­ing a ben­e­fit con­cert this Decem­ber, fea­tur­ing an all star line-​up of Prince’s band members.

And not obscure bongo-​players from the New Power Gen­er­a­tion either: Wendy & Lisa with Matt Fink, Bobby Z. and Eric Leeds. Jerome Benton has signed up too. As has Susan­nah Melvoin.

For those who don’t hold an exhaus­tive data­base of Prince infor­ma­tion in their heads, that’s the Rev­o­lu­tion and The Family all on stage at once, plus Shiela E. her­self. Or, to put it another way, every­one who made a sig­nif­i­cant con­tri­bu­tion to Prince’s ouevre from Dirty Mind through to Sign o’ the Times.

The little man him­self isn’t on the bill, and given that he doesn’t exactly have a his­tory of part­ing com­pany with band­mates on good terms, I sus­pect he won’t show.

I want a ticket. A lot.
