Hosting Problems

Our gra­cious hosts have made ‘a number of changes’ to the PHP con­fig­u­ra­tion after an ‘incident’ on Tues­day. This has broken a couple of things on our site. Until I have a bit more infor­ma­tion on what’s changed, I’ve stripped out all the affected parts of the site. Sorry about that. The obvi­ous change on this page is the absence of the Read­ing sec­tion - if you’re des­per­ate for linky good­ness, it still exists on it’s own page.

I might not have spot­ted every­thing, so if you see errors on the site that start like this:

open_basedir restriction in effect

please do send me an email.

It’s all a bit of a puzzle really: the more com­plex php scripts are work­ing fine, yet the most basic little snip­pets have broken, and behav­iour seems incon­sis­tent across the var­i­ous sites on my corner of the server.

On an entirely unre­lated note, I see that Dr. Kim Howells’ depar­ture from the cul­ture min­istry is lead­ing to a wild flurry of searches on his name.
