Hosting Problems

Our gracious hosts have made ‘a number of changes’ to the PHP configuration after an ‘incident’ on Tuesday. This has broken a couple of things on our site. Until I have a bit more information on what’s changed, I’ve stripped out all the affected parts of the site. Sorry about that. The obvious change on this page is the absence of the Reading section - if you’re desperate for linky goodness, it still exists on it’s own page.

I might not have spotted everything, so if you see errors on the site that start like this:

open_basedir restriction in effect

please do send me an email.

It’s all a bit of a puzzle really: the more complex php scripts are working fine, yet the most basic little snippets have broken, and behaviour seems inconsistent across the various sites on my corner of the server.

On an entirely unrelated note, I see that Dr. Kim Howells’ departure from the culture ministry is leading to a wild flurry of searches on his name.
