Well said, and so it bloody well should be. I can’t quite believe that MPs, MSPs and AMs have to swear allegiance to the monarch. Then again, I can’t quite believe we have a monarch. Why hasn’t anyone done anything about that?

Someone did do something about it. They fought a war of independence and won, and they still don’t have a monarch. Britain is unusual in that it’s the only country in history to have had its revolution overseas.
The problem with that bloody woman’s oath is that it isn’t to the people; it’s to the People. Beware politicians who capitalise the word “people”.
