Comments Opened Up
I just installed the Askimet plugin for Movable Type, and, to see if it works as well as reported, anyone can now leave a comment without having to wait for me to approve it.
(If you can be bothered, do leave a comment on this entry so I can see everything is working well. If it’s working badly, expect a deluge of comments on all entries advertising dubious things.)

Akismet’s great, except during the moments when it flickers (I suspect that some of the times I’ve gotten runs of hundreds of spams in a few minutes have been part of an attempt to DDoS Akismet, since they don’t make much sense otherwise). I think I’ve only had three false positives, out of 16K since last fall, and those were from unneeded entity-encoding from someone trying to avoid having emoticons converted to images.

1000 free smilies, free for the taking. Also great deals on herbal remedies. Want details? Ask me.

Blimey, that’s pretty good.
It seems to be working well so far here - couple of hundred spams identified as such, only one slipped through the net.

i’m not convinced - it will end in tears

Hee. That was too convincing, Luke: I was really annoyed that Askimet wasn’t working until I saw the email address.
