Time For Sub Sessions

It’s that time of the month again. Sub Ses­sions, a night devoted to live elec­tronic music at the Sub Club, is on Wednes­day, 8th Sep­tem­ber, from 9pm to 1am. The cover charge is what­ever you fancy - it’s a dona­tion­ware nightclub!

This month, along­side disc jockey res­i­dents Richard Stuff and myself (Möt is my cur­rent silly pseu­do­nym), there are three live acts:

• Night­mare Jazz Café

  Donna sings beau­ti­fully, Chris takes care of the crunch-​glitch-​squelch. The result: clas­sic disco made with ultra­mod­ern noises, with jazz vocals. (With­out wish­ing to be rude, I think they need to change their name from Night­mare Jazz Café to… well, pretty much any­thing else!)

• The BPL

  This is The BPL’s debut live per­for­mance, so I haven’t a clue what they sound like. It says they make ‘quirky bleepy squeaky electronica’ on the press release. Jolly good.

• Izu

  Izu music is ‘pink, slimy and stupid’ accord­ing to their label. Down­load this live set to see if they’re right.

So, three live acts for slightly more than free, all nice and early, since it’s on a school night. In between, Richard will doubt­less be doing his screwed-​up R&B-tronica thing, while I’ll mostly be play­ing grime and dance­hall stuff (because the Sub’s soundsys­tem is so bloody good, I can’t resist making full use of the belly-​quaking bass).
