Broken

It would seem that Movable Type doesn’t enjoy importing more than a thouasand entries, then rebuilding.

As a result, the site is broken in a number of ways (little things like missing category archive pages, not being able to post to the site…) and I can’t see a way of fixing it short of switching to another CMS or hanging on in the hope that the imminent 3.1 release of Movable Type will fix the bug.

So, yeah, large parts of this site don’t work, and I’m not sure if I’ll be able to post for a day or two.

Update: much to my surprise, I seem to have fixed everything. Maybe Donovan was right after all!

  1. Maybe I’m wrong but isn’t the sidebar links missing? Or is that part of the redesign?

  2. You mean links to other folk? Yeah, they’re going to re-appear somewhere else soon.

If you mean there’s nothing at all in the sidebar, er, I have broken the place more than I thought!

(I’m redesigning in a reverse way by first getting the site working as I want, then re-writing the templates into nice standards compliant XHTML, and only then working out how it should look using CSS.)

  3. No, it’s ok. I did just mean the external links section.

Bold move on the redesign in reverse. Count yourself very lucky if you don’t hit problems with IE vs standards-compliant browsers (if you care about the IE audience at all).
