Submit Response is a weblog by Jack Mottram, a Friendster
I signed up at Friendster about five minutes after it launched, and promptly realised that the only people there that I could add to my network were folk I ‘know’ in the sense that we occaisionally cross paths in the comment sections of weblogs, on mailing lists and via Trackback. So not really friends at all then.
As an aside: ‘Oh, she’s just a Trackback pal’ has a nice ring to it. I might attempt to use that in polite company, if only to see how many people attempt to punch my lights out.
Anyway, sans-friends, Friendster is more than a little pointless, but the other day a couple of real-life, non-geek chums mentioned the site in passing, so I decided to sign up a second time.
Bloody Hell, that place is big now! In a few seconds, I saw acquaintances from that London, folk I know from way back when, folk I’ve interviewed and kept in touch with, folk I’ve danced with in Berlin discoteques. In short, half the known world is in my extended network already, having only added the two aforementioned real-life friends to my profile, namely Dr. Alec ‘Fuck Theory’ Kennedy and the divine Ms. Janet ‘Sista Motivator’ Wilson.
So, consider this post an open call to everyone I know who is on Friendster to get in touch, and to those not yet in the network to sign up, pronto.
Update: Fascinating. Most of the folk I’ve found on Friendster who I genuinely know well in real life are not part of my network. Oh, and I don’t know why I returned to the fray, having already read this sorry tale of addiction.

It’s too early to tell, but I suspect it’s too big - nothing useful can come of me being linked to tens of thousands of random Americans, and the filtering is too basic - the Gallery just punts hot women at me, with whom I have nothing in common. Which is nice like, but not useful.
It would be a lot better if you had to fill out a really extensive questionnaire so that some genuinely useful connections could be made - I’m sure there are friends of friends of friends out there who are, say, learning PHP at the moment - if Freindster knew this about me and other people, we’d have an instant socio-culturally similar, trusted PHP coding beginners group. Filter that down further to PHP coder wannabes with a keen interest in electronic music, and you get a set of people who would all be into collaboratively building a S-o clone site as a learning project… and so on. Then you could go in the opposite direction, and have ‘conventions’ with other similar groups working outside your personal network…
Oh, hang on, this is turning into a proper post, not a comment… see above later for more wittering. God, wittering about Friendster is more addictive than Friendster itself…

Wonder if that happens a lot.

Hi, I’ve the same problem with u guys …
I can’t access my friendster through my own pc. But I tried on other pc it worked.
I’ve tried delete cookies, temp folder, temp internet files, prefetch folder, and the last one was reinstall OS, but nothing change.
Does anyone can help ? thx …

I don’t know why people are asking for Friendster support here, but just to be clear: I have no idea why you can’t log in to Friendster. You’d be better off asking someone who works at Friendster. I don’t even have an account there anymore.
