Introducing Myself

Hello to the Submit Response Read­er­ship. My name is Dono­van. Jack and Leon have granted me post­ing rights on this fine dig­i­tal organ. Thought I’d begin by shar­ing what I’ve been mostly brows­ing of late. Mass­a­chu­setts Insti­tute of Tech­nol­ogy have decided to put a vast number of their courses online, com­plete with course notes and the occas­sional dig­i­tal book. Could MIT Open­Course­Ware mean the end of stu­dent loans and the dreaded tuition fees (for non-​Scottish readers)?

Also intrigu­ing me at the moment is the list of the Top 500 Super­com­put­ers. Search for “UK” on the page and marvel at the super­com­puter bud­gets of the Atomic Weapons Estab­lish­ment and the acronymic CLRC which seems to be based in War­ring­ton of all places.

Also worth a daily browse is Ars Tech­nica and of course the progress of my Fan­tasy Foot­ball team.

    I’m some­thing of an Ars Tech­nica fan myself - their big head-​to-​head reviews are gen­er­ally fan­tas­tic in terms of in-​depthiness.

    Look­ing for­ward to future postings… esepe­cially any­thing to do with under­ground bunkers!

    I shall now away and change the About page to reflect the changes to the edi­to­r­ial board.

  3. Oh, and I reas­signed yr post to an exist­ing cat­e­gory Don - for var­i­ous boring rea­sons stuff’ll get mucked up if new ones are added.

    I’ve been mean­ing to add a few new cat­e­gories anyway, so I’ll get to that when doing the immin­nent redesign (yeah, I know I said I wouldn’t do that for a year, but…) and add Tech­nol­ogy to the list…
