t610 on the Desktop

I’ll stop with the t610 gushing soon, I promise. But in the meantime, how cool is this?

I could tell without even taking the phone out of my pocket that this was a call I needed to answer, albeit after leaving the caller hanging on for nine rings while I took a screenshot. If you are as lazy as I am, this is important. Very important.

It get’s better though.

Midway through completely failing to help the unlinkable Hannah McGill get a dial-up connection in her hotel room, the following popped up:

Note the Reply button, making it possible to continue the SMS coversation without ever touching the telephone. Wonderful.

To enable these features, which I assume work for all Bluetooth-equipped handsets, open Address Book and click on the Bluetooth logo. Er, that’s it. To send an SMS from scratch, or make a call, you just click and hold on a contact’s mobile number.

  3. Yes, I suppose the Address Book features are quite nice when you get used to them. Hiding the SMS integration behind a mystery-meat interface (how did you find out it was click and hold? Did someone tell you, perhaps? Is it in the menus? Oh, no it isn’t!) is hardly a good thing, though.

I’m also less than impressed with Bluetooth File Exchange, although at least iSync works.

    (What, no preview button?)

  4. I only found out about the click ‘n’ hold thing by accidentally clicking and holding! Haven’t seen it mentioned anywhere…

You’re dead right about the File Exchange - bloody awful. The fact that you can’t Get multiple files beggars belief. And the lack of preview means you have to sit there with your phone looking at the pics to find out what number they are. Not being able to delete images on the phone from the Mac sucks too. I keep meaning to ping the LazyWeb to see if anyone can/has already come up with a superior alternative… perhaps I will now.

  5. Oh, if memory serves, I’m not so clever/lucky - this entry over at Mac OS X Hints tipped me off.
