Lock up?

It’s a rare occasion when the bickering factions of the Tory party cease their internecine squabbling to come up with a policy idea; when they do, it’s usual ridiculed, and rightly so.

Shadow home secretary Oliver Letwin’s proposals that all asylum seekers be locked up is the latest in a series of policy announcements to court the BNP/Daily Mail vote. Two questions, though: with the Tories lurching ever-further to the right, are Labour going to follow them and steal their voters? And if they do lock up all these asylum seekers, where are they going to do it? Not in Oliver Letwin’s constituency, anyway.
