Autechre in lo-tech copy protection shocker

Promo copies of Autechre’s forthcoming album, Draft 7.30 (due April 7) are on cassette tape, presumably to hinder those who might be tempted to make the recording available through the internet. A nice lo-tech solution to the problem.

It’s not going to stop the filesharing getting their mits on the goods, but it might slow the process down. I know that if Draft 7.30 had landed on my doormat in CD format, it would have been uploaded to a certain discreet filesharing site I frequent by now. As it is, I can’t really be arsed getting my tape deck down from the top of the wardrobe to listen to it, let alone rip it to Mp3.

The insert also features an amusing reminder to hold off on that eBay auction:
Any resale of this item is prohibited by law. However, should you wish to resell the item illegally, we’d like to advise you that the market value of the item will increase significantly after the album’s release date.
