Backwards Compatible

I only just got around to look­ing at this page in Netscape 4.7, what with all the dis­trac­tions of a new iBook. Click on the thumb­nail below to see how it looks in the most anti­quated, and bug­gi­est, of browsers. This is what I like about web stan­dards: when writ­ing the tem­plate for this page, I didn’t even have to think about workarounds, mul­ti­ple ver­sions for dif­fer­ent browsers and what have you, but every­thing looks just about okay in any­thing from IE5.2 to NS4.7. On a Mac at least, I have no idea what the site looks like on a PC. Come to think of it, I did make one small con­ces­sion to older browsers: avoid­ing set­ting the back­ground of any divs to trans­par­ent, as this tends to create black boxes in Netscape 4.x, and older ver­sions of IE. That said, sup­port for back­ground trans­parency is pretty patchy anyway…
