i found a pretty good polari dictionary earlier; browsing through, was surprised to discover that some of the words were identical to scots terms [i’ve looked for a good scots dictionary online, but there isn’t one; predictably, those keen to preserve spoken scots aren’t exactly au fait with html]. no idea whether the common words developed separately and coincidentally, or whether there’s a link, but polari’s such a mangled conglomeration of so many different languages that i wouldn’t be surprised if there was a link. maybe jack would care to go on a polari research binge…
