RIP indeed. The chain had sort of lost its way as it expanded out of Scotland (and dropped vinyl, the week after I ran a story in the Scotsman about how they’d never drop vinyl!) but it provided a really good service, especially for students/folk just getting into music, with all those cut-price ‘classic’ albums.

Very sad. I shall cheer myself up by remembering his anecdote about avoiding a glassing by reciting a Kurt Schwitters poem at his attackers.

This doesn’t really help resolve my simultaneous ‘WANT!’/’DON’T WANT!’ attitude to the iPhone - I suppose I should just hope for some sort of super-iPod/web computer type device with no ‘phone features.

Does anyone know of an alternative? Great though it is, the recent redesign has rendered the site pretty much unusable.
