Coalition
Colin Powell’s announcement of a coalition of 45 allies is a pretty half-arsed attempt to give an impression of international support for war. No nations in the Middle East, not even those giving practical support to the US, are willing to stand up and be counted. Israel has been left off the list, despite publically supporting the war.
The Times quotes a former British diplomat as saying, “The last time we had serious global players. We had serious regional powers. This time the Americans have cobbled together a desperate bunch of countries that can’t say ‘no’.”
Meanwhile, The Guardian wonders what Eritrea can do to help.
