Unlikely Celebrity Juxtaposition
I just turned on the telly to find John Lydon making a claim in the court of Judge Judith Sheindlin. The other week, the world was abuzz with news of the bass-player from Slade’s romantic entanglement with Rose West. On April 28th of last year, I saw Brian May being interviewed by Patrick Moore.
This phenomenon, which I hereby dub Unlikely Celebrity Juxtaposition, seems to be becoming more common and I probably ought to formulate some kind of theory about how it is a signifier of a paradigm shift in the nature of fame, with reference to Andy Warhol, Heat magazine and, I dunno, post-Lacanian thinking on the duplicity of language or something. I can’t be bothered, though. I’m not sure if my non-botheredness should be seen as an eloquent silence in the face of fame-saturation or genuine indifference.
