Personality Tests

personality tests are the scourge of the interweb, and weblogs in particular, but this one is vaguely interesting — it’s an update of the geek code [now at v3.12]. still, i’m not going to bother to fill the thing in and proudly post the results next to “if i was a crack addict, i would be… sucking cock for rocks” etc. [actually, perhaps i should make a crack addict one, it would doubtless become meme of the microsecond for the first few seconds of next week.] i seem to remember someone unleashing an anti-personality test banner for bloggers to proudly display in the space other bloggers reserve for personality test results, but that would seem to be another, particularly snooty, form of personality-test-result-displaying…

anyway, this place is nearly as good as the google usenet archive. i just spent half an hour there learning about how to phreak phones in mid-80s america. i’m not sure why, but the fact that you used to be able to trick the phone network into giving you free calls by blowing a whistle that came free with breakfast cereal into the receiver is strangely appealing… apparently wozniak and jobs used to make cash selling their version of a blue box before they got around to the rather more lucrative invention of the apple.

more on this:

  1. british phreaking
  2. 2600 magazine
  3. the official phreaker’s manual

did someone sign us up at gblogs? maybe i did while drunk… whichever is the case, many people have stopped by after seeing us there - if you want another couple of hundred places to waste time looking at, it’s worth a peek.
